FATE (Foundations in Art: Theory and Education) is an educational association dedicated to the promotion of excellence in the development and teaching of college level foundation courses in both studio and art history. FATE’s reach extends throughout art and design programs in independent colleges, university departments, community colleges, and crossover, undergraduate-level high schools throughout the United States & Canada and is represented at most major higher education conferences to promote the goals of the organization. For over 30 years, FATE has grown through its promotion of excellence and innovation in arts foundations. FATE expands their mission of support to the creative arts educational community by hosting a variety of regional events across the United States, sharing discussion between educators through FATE’s Positive Space Podcast and publishing the journal FATE in Review.
FATE in Review seeks thoughtful articles relating to all areas of foundations education, including expanding the practicum, flexing the core, and re-visioning visual culture. Conference papers and/or presentations, as well as papers written solely for publication may be submitted throughout the year. Reviews of newer books that inform foundations discussion and curriculum are also sought. We encourage you to forward suggestions to the editor of FATE in Review.
Submissions for the next volume (2017-2018) of FATE in Review are due August 18, 2017. Submissions for future volumes are ongoing.
All articles are peer-reviewed by a panel of associate editors and readers. If applicable, include the following information with all submitted materials: your name, institution, title, and email address.
