Target Gallery Intern- Spring 2018

Type: Internships [View all]
Posted by: Target Gallery
Deadline: Sun, December 10th, 2017

Description:

Target Gallery, contemporary exhibition space of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, offers two unpaid internships each semester for students of Art, Art History, Arts Management, or some equivalent. Interns receive behind the scenes experience of working in a gallery setting as well as class credit. This internship will take place January through May.

Hours:

The intern will be required to work at least 2 days a week, with one day being during the weekend, for at least 16 hours a week. The gallery director will work with the interns on scheduling so as not to interfere with their class and work schedules. Art Center hours are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily and Thursdays until 9 p.m. Once a month we have our 2nd Thursday Art Night and the intern will be required to work that event and any other additional special events that may take place during their internship period.

Responsibilities:

The gallery director will work with the interns to create a focus or project for each intern to complete during their internship along with other necessary gallery duties to include but not limited to helping with installation, take down of exhibitions, sales, and so on.  Some projects/focuses in the past have included creating an exhibition plan, assisting with marketing and promotion of exhibitions and special events, managing Target Gallery’s social media accounts,  working on our annual special exhibition, developing special programming, workshops, and more.

Requirements:

This internship requires that the student be responsible, able to multitask, show initiative, possess a good work ethic, great attention to detail, and have a great attitude. The ability to work on both MAC and PC computers and familiarity with social networks is mandatory. Preferred candidate should be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite programs. Interns must feel comfortable talking to the public about the work at the exhibition and handling potential sales.

To Apply:

Please email resumes with cover letter to Leslie Mounaime with “Target Gallery 2018 Spring Internship” as the subject line. Applications are accepted through Sunday, December 10th.
