Posted by: GAMBA Magazine
Deadline: Sun, April 1st, 2018

GAMBA Magazine and Brooklyn Wildlife Creative Services Firm came together to create GAMBA Artist Residency. We are located in Brooklyn, NY and therefore have a plethora of resources, venues, galleries, networks and independent partnerships that make our residency desirable and connected.

GAMBA Artist Residency roots from a commitment to independent artist who make, or would like to make, a sustainable living doing what they love and care about. We are looking for artists interested in joining a team of independents who not only consider themselves artists but who also care about navigating and understanding ownership, autonomy, creative control/distribution. We look at independent lifestyles as sufficient, community oriented and unfiltered. Literary and visual artists as well as musicians and performance artists whose ideas and goals are rooted in passion and thoughtfulness without the politics of mainstream culture are not only welcome but encouraged to apply.

WHAT WE OFFER:

STANDARD RESI - A one month residency with accommodations available in various artist spaces. Artist applying to this residency should expect the following:

Accommodation: A room in one of the many artists lofts we are in partnership with. Artists lofts share a large living space and provide artists with their own bedroom as well as work space. Spaces vary depending on artists wants and needs

Cost: Cost varies depending on type of space artist requests - anywhere from 1500 to 3000 for the month. Nightly costs vary from 50 -100.

EXTENDED RESI - Same as Standard Resi but last for 2-3 months. This is for an artist interested in completing an extended project and/or presenting their work more formally in one of the galleries we work with.

*** All residency types are offered on a rolling basis

ALL RESIDENCY PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

APPLICATION PROCESS and ARTIST REQUIREMENTS:

Who goes to GAMBA Artist Residencies?

GAMBA Forest is ideal for writers, painters, musicians, printmakers, photographers, illustrators, and media artists. We can host up to three artists at a time and a diversity of studio spaces are available although equipment isn’t included in all spaces. GAMBA Forest is a residency for those who are looking to collaborate with other independent artists and who want to be a part of a passionate artists community. Inspiration and stimuli abound outside of your living quarters in the vibrant and diverse neighborhoods of New York Cities five boroughs and the country landscape beyond. However, although New York City and the surrounding areas offer unlimited exploration our residency is perfect for those who want to get to know the local art communities in Brooklyn more than they want to engage in tourist activities - although a balance is expected. The local art scene is welcoming, inviting and unparalleled in its diversity/culture.

Email gambaforest@gmail.com.com and include the Resi you are interested in, the months/dates you would like to request, a statement of purpose, a resume, links or attachments to a diversity of work.
