The 8th International Conference of Contemporary Cast Iron Art is seeking artists for The Railroad Exhibition. This juried exhibition will focus on sculptures created by registered participants of ICCCIA that utilize railroad inspired ideas for the creation of their work. Artists are encouraged to consider the conference theme, "Post Industrial Iron: Divergence, Dialog, and New Directions." Any medium may be used, but cast iron must be used in the work in some way.  Works will be selected from emerging and established artists from around the world.  The goal of this exhibition is to showcase works that relate closely to Steamtown’s industrial site and the history that surrounds it.

JUROR: Durant Thompson
Durant Thompson is an Associate Professor of sculpture in the Department of Art at the University of Mississippi. In 1997, Durant received his BFA in Sculpture from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and in 2001 he earned an MFA in Sculpture from Louisiana State University. He has also worked at The Johnson Atelier School of Technical Sculpture in New Jersey and at the University of Southern Mississippi as a technician and instructor before accepting his current position.

ELIGIBILITY:
The Railroad Exhibition  is open to all delegates who are registered for the ICCCIA. All works must be original work and completed in the last five years.  All works to be submitted must be adhere to scale and weight restrictions outlined below.

APPLY: Media: Three-dimensional works that include cast iron in some way. Only original work will be shown. No reproductions will be accepted. Size and Weight: All works submitted must be able to be displayed on pedestals with a 2’ x 2’ or 3’ x 3’ tops. Size and weight limitations include a maximum dimensions that will fit in a 5’ x 4’ x 7’ elevator and through its 3’ x 6’ elevator door,with a load limit of 300 lbs. for floor works and 150 lbs. for pedestal pieces. Wall and ceiling mounted works will also be considered based on the availability of space and must be suitably prepared for hanging.  Artists are required to provide specific hanging devices considering these parameters. Number of entries: Entry is limited to pieces per artist. The juror reserves the right to disqualify any work not reflecting the specifications of the exhibition.  Form: All entries must have a completed entry form (form found here) or the works will not be considered. Entry specifications: All submitted images must be named with entry number (corresponding to the entry number on the application form) (underscore) artist’s first name (underscore) artist’s last name (underscore) title. For example: 1_John_Jones_Night_Train.jpg.  Detail images must include the word ‘detail’ in the file name. For example: 1_John_Jones_Night_Train_detail.jpg. Images  should be in HIGH QUALITY JPEG format. Images should be 1024 at its largest pixel length and a resolution of 300 dpi. Be sure you are sending files at the correct size AND that your email software does not automatically downsize the attached images when sending.  Images must be oriented properly (i.e. top of image is top of artwork) and should not include text info or borders that are not part of the actual work. 
DEADLINE:
Entries must be received no later than 11:59pm EST on Sunday, February 18, 2018. Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.

ENTRY FEE:
There is no fee for this exhibition. It is open to all registered delegates of the conference. Accepted artists will be required to show evidence of registration before works will be included in the exhibition.

SUBMIT:
Email entries to durant.thompson@icccia.com  (use  ‘Railroad Exhibition’  in the subject line).

ACCEPTED WORKS: A COMPLETE entry form must be submitted on site with the artwork.  All pieces must be delivered to the Steamtown National Historic Site, located at 350 Cliff Street, Scranton, PA 18503, between 1 pm and 5 pm on May 28, 2018.  Artists are responsible for hand delivering their work to and from Steamtown National Historic Site. Works will not be picked up or received from alternate locations. Artists should consider individual transportation and flight details as well as customs regulations for all works transported. Artists are responsible for all transportation and delivery costs. All works must arrive ready to exhibit. The curator will make every attempt to accommodate special requests, but can not make guarantees. Work CAN NOT be shipped via mail.  All exhibiting artists are responsible for picking up their work June 2 and June 3 between 9am-12pm. Work left uncollected by 12pm June 3,  2018 will be considered forfeit and will be disposed of at the discretion of ICCCIA .
SCHEDULE:
May 28th -  all ACCEPTED work hand delivered to Steamtown National Historic Site,  350 Cliff Street, Scranton, PA 18503, between 1pm- 5pm.  No work will be accepted after 5pm.
May 30th - exhibit opens at 2pm
June 1st - opening/reception: 5-9pm
June 2nd and 3rd - mandatory pickup times: 9am-12pm (alternate pickup times by appointment only)

AWARDS:
Best in Show and two Honorable Mentions will awarded. Awards will be announced during the closing remarks of the conference on June 3, 2018.

SALES:
All inquiries and sales shall be handled by the artist.

LIABILITY:
All possible care will be taken in the handling of entries. Entrants accept that ICCCIA and Steamtown National Historic Site, its staff, employees, volunteers, and governing boards are not responsible for loss of or damage to any entry.  ICCCIA and Steamtown National Historic Site will provide security for all work while inside the exhibit venue for the extent of the exhibit. Artists will complete an entry form on site that will assume consent is given to ICCCIA by the artist to document submitted works for the purpose of promotion.
