The 8th International Conference of Contemporary Cast Iron Art is seeking artists for an exhibition called “New Frontiers.” Considering the conference theme, "Post Industrial Iron: Divergence, Dialog, and New Directions," this exhibition will emphasize the idea of time, travel, movement, place, space, and connections. Awareness of the material history of iron and it’s deep roots to Scranton, “New Frontiers” will challenge artists to consider these histories and how they exist in contemporary art.
The city of Scranton is place that has historically represented opportunity and cultivated a close knit community. It represents radical shifts in the industrial era while embracing new possibilities. Scranton’s history is deeply connected to the railroad, artists can interpret the theme of “New Frontiers” by utilizing themes of time, movement, place, space, and nostalgia.
