Art Kibbutz Summer Institute Hamptons   East Hampton, NY June 26 – July 10, 2018 Applications NOW OPEN   Art Kibbutz – the International Jewish Artist Residency – proudly announces a special two week residency program at The Jewish Center of the Hamptons  for summer 2018.   For this program artists may select any topic, while engaging in periodic group discussions encompassing aspects of Jewish tradition and social ethics. We aim to build community, develop common ground, and increase the reach and influence of our art, empowered by our engagement with Jewish culture, history, and spirituality. Applications are welcome regardless of individual identity as Jews or non-Jews.   Art Kibbutz supports artists working on their own projects, as well as collaborations with other artists or linked to other communities. Artists are expected to remain for the full duration of the residency.   SUPPORTIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT Art Kibbutz’s Summer Institute in the Hamptons will take place a few steps away from the beach. With studios for visual artists, writers, composers, performing artists as well as presentation and sale opportunities, the Art Kibbutz summer institute will be a welcoming place for artists interested joining a lively Jewish arts community.   While in the Hamptons, artists create new works, develop their practice, and find potential collaborators, while drawing inspiration from community, and our beautiful natural setting on the beach. During this two-weeks-long residency each artist is required to develop and present at least two public interactive events (for adults, families, or children) on site, in cooperation with JCOH and its calendar. Some presentations will take place later during the summer. You will be asked to describe in your application your topic, methods, thoughts, goals, and a preliminary plan for your presentation. Artists will be reqired to volunteer at least 5 hours a week.   EXPOSURE: This program offers artists-in-residence a range of curated presentation, performance, and sale possibilities. Open Studio events are promoted as part of Art Kibbutz’s and JCOH’s calendar of public engagement events. Resident artists are announced annually and listed on Art Kibbutz’s website as well as featured on other digital communication channel. We are organizing a Benefit Party during the time of the residency to underwrite some our expenses.   DISCIPLINES: Animation, Collaboration, Crafts & Trades, Creative Writing, Dance, Experimental, Film & Video, Installation, Media Arts, Music & Sound, Performance, Philosophy, Photography, Poetry, Research, Sculpture, Theater, Visual Arts.   DEADLINE: April 2, 2018.    RESIDENCY STUDIO SPACE: Each resident is provided shared studio space (indoor or outdoors) based on need.   Please note: There are no special shared facilities such as a woodshop or media lab Tools: Artists must provide their own tools; some restrictions apply   TRANSPORTATION: East Hampton is accessible by train or car. Parking is available on site.   LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: The Jewish Center of the Hamptons will house artists in its fabulous Guest House for this program: 2 bedrooms with twin beds, 1 bedroom with 4 twin beds, options to stay off site. Shared kosher kitchen and shared bathroom, JCOH is a reform synagogue.   FOOD: Art Kibbutz provides breakfast, snacks, Shabbat hospitality, and access to kitchen. Food vendors are close by. Most meals will be prepared by residents.   RESIDENCY FEES: Upon acceptance, artists are required to sign the residency contract, and pay a small security deposit of $100. Residency fees are due one month before the start of the residency. Fee: $800 including housing, programming, presentation opportunities, some food. Insurance, travel, per diem paid by artists.   APPLICATION REVIEW PROCESS & SELECTION CRITERIA: Applicants are reviewed by an Evaluation Committee comprised of artists and arts & literary professionals. The application includes a number of questions, intended to prompt you to think about and describe the kinds of work that you might undertake at Art Kibbutz. Please answer these questions thoughtfully. You have the option of saving a draft version of the application prior to submission.
