NORTH TEXAS DIGITAL FABRICATION SYMPOSIUM:
(NON)STANDARD EXHIBITION CALL FOR ARTWORK

This April at Texas Woman’s University, the North Texas Digital Fabrication Group will host “Humanizing the Digital”, a symposium that will consider ways in which new technologies are reconnecting us with our humanity. In conjunction, there will be a juried exhibition of student artwork incorporating the use of these new processes. The purpose of the exhibition will be to show the range of potential expression made available by digital fabrication, especially in ways that relate to the theme of the symposium. We are particularly interested in work incorporating handmade elements, and we also welcome work that explores an aesthetic of imperfection or failure.

Both undergraduate and graduate students from all art and design fields incorporating digital fabrication technologies in their work are encouraged to submit their work for consideration.

The work will be displayed as wall mounted modular (square) elements grouped together to form larger visual clusters reminiscent of low-res pixel noise. Work can be created in any of three sizes – 6” x 6”, 12” x 12”, and 24” x 24” – and can be made in any material or mix of materials that is safe and stable. We welcome work in a variety of materials such as (but not limited to) clay, fibers, wood, metal, plastic, foam, acrylic, paper, cardboard. All work must be firmly mounted on ¾” plywood (to which we will attach wall-mounting hardware).
