Call for Artists for a Group Show

Type: Exhibition Opportunities [View all]
Posted by: Second Street Gallery
Deadline: Tue, May 1st, 2018

Second Street Gallery is pleased to announce that submissions are open for a new group show, Teeny Tiny Trifecta, to be held in SSG’s Dové Gallery beginning September 7th. The exhibition is open to all artists, with preference given to artists living in Charlottesville and the state of Virginia.

The exhibition kicks off the gallery’s 45th Season and will consist of a collection of three works of art, all measuring 10 inches or smaller, from a carefully curated selection of artists. Inspired by both Cabinets of Curiosities as well as the Paris Salons of the 19th Century, but with a modern twist, the exhibition aims to showcase the wide range of talented artists in Virginia (and beyond!) while providing an accessible introduction to contemporary art collecting.  All work will be priced at $100, so this is an excellent opportunity for collectors of all budgets to collect a work of art by some of their favorite artists.

Kristen Chiacchia, Executive Director and Chief Curator of Second Street Gallery will jury submissions. Since being named the gallery’s curator in February of 2017, Ms. Chiacchia has curated exhibitions by Adejoke Tugbiyele, Paul Brainard, Peter Alexander Benedetti, Judith Pratt, a group show of 12 Charlottesville artists, and SSG’s 2017 Triennial Auction Selections.   Before joining Second Street Gallery, Ms. Chiacchia was Director at Edward Tyler Nahem Fine Art in New York City, where she organized exhibitions of work by Ed Ruscha, Joan Mitchell, Hew Locke, Andres Serrano, Farideh Lashai, Erik Benson, and some group shows featuring Abstract Expressionist Masters.

Ms. Chiacchia received her BA in the History of Art & Architecture from the University of Pittsburgh. She earned her MA in Modern and Contemporary Art: Critical and Curatorial Studies at Columbia University. She also completed a Certificate in Appraisal Studies in Fine and Decorative Arts at New York University.

More information may be found on the gallery’s website (http://www.secondstreetgallery.org/index.php/exhibitions/apply). The deadline for submissions is May 1, 2018.  The exhibition will open to the public at 5 pm on Friday, September 7th and will remain on view through September 28, 2018.
