For this exhibit Manifest is seeking works of visual art which somehow, in some way, represent or are realized as ’hacked’. This may be in the form of narrative, symbolic, or suggestive works. Abstract or conceptual interpretations of the theme are welcome alongside those of technical or literal representations. In our staff brainstorming sessions during Manifest’s season planning we jotted down these notes, along with the definitions and ideas above: open source; no gates; vampires & pirates; found objects; transparency; and democratization, among others. 

As with most Manifest projects, our curatorial staff and jurors have no expectation for what sort of works can or should fit this theme. Our offering of this project is as much of a question, and a challenge, for artists to answer. Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual or experimental in any visual art medium (including boundary-testing forms that could also qualify as non-art). The only criteria beyond excellent quality is that works must address the broad theme as defined by’hacked’. 

ELIGIBILITY: HACKED is open to everyone. The only limitation is that entries must represent original works which address the broad theme as defined by ’hacked’. 

ANNUAL CASH AWARD: The Manifest Grand Jury Prize end-of-year award process will include at least one work from this exhibition moving on to the final jury for the $2,500 cash prize.

ENTRY FEE: $40 for up to three entries submitted. $10 per each additional entry. Fees are non-refundable. Number of entries is unlimited. Entry fee must be paid by U.S. check or money order made payable to MANIFEST, or by credit card via PayPal. (If paying by PayPal PLEASE use the paypal link provided on the page that follows the submission of the online entry form.)
