Mainframe: Call for Work Exploring the Use and Effect of Technology in Society

Type: Exhibition Opportunities [View all]
Posted by: Young Affiliates of the Mint Museum
Deadline: Thu, May 31st, 2018

The Young Affiliates of the Mint announce their Third Annual Art Show, "Mainframe," to be held in the Level 5 expansion space of the Mint Museum Uptown Charlotte, September 14 - October 17, 2018.

The dawn of the mainframe computer marks a turning point in society. Technology advancements occur constantly and turn new products obsolete in a matter of months. Ironically, technological devices elicit an array of reactions and emotions from the user. Whether it is nostalgia, innovation or possible obsession, we are all influenced in some way by the advances the world has encountered. "Mainframe," a participatory compilation of works, will explore the role of technology in society and/or how technology overstimulation has impacted the world’s youngest generations.

The Young Affiliates of the Mint call for artists making work that is participatory, immersive, experiential, interactive, and/or multi-sensory that explores the use and effect of technology in society. "Mainframe" will juried by Lia Newman, Ivan Toth Depena, and Kelly McChesney.

The Young Affiliates are calling for submissions now through May 31, 2018, accepting works made within the US. Jurors will select artists based on spatial needs of each selected artist. Artists can submit existing work to be adapted/installed at Mint Museum space. A map of the space with dimensions and specs can be found at youngaffiliates.org/artshow. Artists must submit high resolution images of the works submitted, an artist statement, and a CV. Artists must include installation or artwork specifications to aid in the curation and installation planning for the show. The entry fee is $40 for up to 8 works of art.

Visit youngaffiliates.org/artshow to apply. Here you will find the submission form and detailed specs of the exhibition space. If you have any questions, email youngaffiliateartshow@gmail.com.
