AHL-Wolhee Choe Art Writers Grant $3000

The AHL-Wolhee Choe Memorial Art Writers Grant supports both emerging and established writers who are writing about contemporary visual art, particularly related to artists of Korean heritage. A project grant of $3,000 will be awarded to an art writer who has an upcoming project slated for publication before November 2019. The goal of the grant program is to support the publication of new writings related to the contemporary art of Korean diaspora by enabling recipients to set aside time to write, research or travel.
Applications are reviewed for artistic excellence along with past achievements. We are seeking intellectually rigorous writing that will contribute to the field of contemporary art and the study of Korean contemporary artists. Eligibility and Publishing Requirements
Applicant must be a published writer. Writing project must be about visual artists of Korean heritage or touch upon aspects of contemporary art of the Korean diaspora. Writing projects may include art criticism, scholarly articles or essays. Grant funded writing projects must be published by reputable and broadly read publications during the 1-year grant period starting November 2018.

Project Proposal Please include a brief description of your upcoming writing project. Rough timeline for project completion. Possible places for publication based on current and previous relationships with potential publishers. Two writing samples of previously published writing. Does “published” writer mean print and online, or print only?
Published writing can include art criticism, articles and scholarly essays published by third-party publications including print and online magazines, journals, and newspapers.
Is the one-year publication deadline for the grant-funded writing project a firm deadline?
Yes, the grant-supported writing project must be published before November 2019 or have a FIRM commitment from an established publisher by the end of the grant period.
Can an online blog be considered an acceptable publication outlet?
Writing projects must be published by reputable and broadly read print or online third-party publications (magazines, journals, and newspapers, etc.) that include other authors. A personal blog will not be an acceptable media outlet.
