Ceramics one-week immersion workshop

Type: Residencies, Workshops, Exchanges [View all]
Posted by: MONTGOMERY COLLEGE
Deadline: Mon, June 4th, 2018

Immerse yourself! This one-week intensive workshop allows you to focus entirely on learning a new skill. Each workshop is led by a well-known professional in her or his field. This class is geared toward professionals and highly experienced amateurs.

 Topic: Uncanny Animal Heads
Explore the narrative, emotional, and conceptual potential of the animal head in clay. Throughout this process, we will draw inspiration from personal experience, archetypes, and observations in the natural and manufactured world. Beginning with small head studies, we will translate these into life-sized or half scale animal heads. Discover Lindsay’s building methods, including solid construction with pipe armature, slab building, and sculpting facial features. Learn about mixed media and ‘cold’ surfaces, display mounts and stands, firing in sections, and rejoining.

Instructor: Lindsay Pichaske
Lindsay Pichaske is a ceramics and mixed media sculptor and Ceramics faculty member at the College of Southern Maryland. She holds an MFA in ceramics from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Recent residencies include a 2011-2012 Taunt Fellowship at the Archie Bray Foundation for Ceramic Arts; Red Dirt in Mt. Rainier, MD; ART342 in Fort Collins, CO; and Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts in Newcastle, ME. She is a recipient of the NCECA Emerging Artist Award and Maryland Individual Artist Award.
