Call for Applications: 2019 German/American Provenance Research Exchange Program (PREP) for Museum Professionals

 

The Smithsonian Provenance Research Initiative (SPRI) and the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, SPK) are pleased to announce the third and final year of exchanges under the German/American Provenance Research Exchange Program (PREP) for Museum Professionals. Our partners in this project are The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles; the Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Dresden State Art Collections); the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, Munich; and the Deutsches Zentrum Kulturgutverluste (German Center for Lost Art).

 

PREP is the first systematic, international exchange program for researchers and museum professionals who focus on World War II-era provenance projects. The primary goal of the three-year program is to create a collaborative network of German and American art museum professionals and of experts in research institutions that support museum work, including collections management staff, curators, provenance researchers, archivists, lawyers, and specialists in digital humanities. Graduate students who are engaged in World War II-era provenance research relevant to museum collections are also invited to apply.

 

Each year from 2017-2019, a cohort of eleven German and ten American participants will take part in two week-long Exchanges in each country, where they will gain a deeper understanding of World War II-era provenance research resources, develop an international network of colleagues, and share expertise.

 

The Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Dresden State Art Collections) (March 17-22, 2019) and the Smithsonian Institution (October 20-26, 2019) will host the 2019 Exchanges. For more information about the program, please consult the PREP webpage.
