Wheaton Biennial: Brush Coat Cover

Type: Exhibition Opportunities [View all]
Posted by: Wheaton College
Deadline: Mon, December 3rd, 2018

About the Exhibition Brush Coat Cover is the 4th biennial held at the Beard and Weil Galleries at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts. This year we invite artists whose work challenges, explores, and celebrates the definition and history of painting as an artistic medium. We are seeking a diverse range of experimental work, collectively evoking an open-ended conversation on painting. The Beard and Weil Galleries are a vital part of Wheaton’s creative and intellectual life. Exhibitions feature work by contemporary artists in all media, as well as works from Wheaton’s extensive Permanent Collection, spanning Ancient Greece to contemporary South Africa. The mission of the Beard and Weil Galleries is to provide cultural exhibitions and programs of contemporary and historical significance with a commitment to scholarship, creativity, and inclusion. About the Juror Cade Tompkins has been a contemporary art dealer for 30 years, first in New York while at a major gallery and then launching as a private dealer in 1992. The platform of Cade Tompkins Projects was established in 2009 in Providence, Rhode Island as a gallery open Saturdays and by appointment from September to May. Cade works with a variety of clients to establish collections for individual collectors, as well building corporate and institutional collections. Major museums across the nation have acquired many works by gallery artists. Cade’s focus is on contemporary art in all mediums and features work by emerging talent as well as mid-career and established artists. In addition to the programed exhibitions in Providence, Cade Tompkins Projects participates in several art fairs during the year, including Spring Break Art Show during Armory Week and Master Drawings New York. Cade is a member of the International Fine Print Dealers Association (IFPDA) and is a graduate of the RISD Appraisal Studies in Art Certificate Program.
