Call for Video Artworks for The Video Art Project 

at the Louisville International Airport

Commissions:  2 artists will be selected for 1 commission each, and will be awarded  $5,000 each, for the delivery of one video artwork each. 

Duration of exhibition:  February 15, 2019 - February 15 , 2020

The Louisville International Airport is accepting applications for a Call for Video Artwork for The Video Art Project at the Louisville International Airport.  As part of an annual call, artists will be asked to submit video artwork that celebrates, expands, explores and inspires ideas about our city, our unique region and state. 

Two large sets of video walls will showcase video art works for one year.  Two large video walls, with 8 monitors each, 3840 x 1080Hpixels, are located in the long passenger causeway. Two smaller video walls with 2 sets of 4 monitors, 1920 x 1080H, each are mounted at the base of escalators in the baggage area. 

The Video Art Project will build on a more than the Louisville International Airport’s 40-year commitment to artwork that reflects our community and ourselves.  The Video Art Program at Louisville International Airport provides a portal into the dynamic cultural life of our region that reflects the contemporary creativity of the Louisville, Kentucky region we serve.

The selected artist is required to create site-specific video proposals with no sound component, for preliminary and final approval reviews. The artwork can be video artwork previously created or new work created by the artist but must meet the formatting requirements.  The each artist selected to exhibit is paid a $5,000 commission and will become part of the collection of the Louisville International Airports Art Collection.  All submissions must be submitted to infoairportvideoart@gmail.com by December, 2018 by midnight Eastern Standard Time.

The Video Art Project Application Requirements

- Eligibility: National/International Artists with minimum 3 years of exhibition experience, students are not eligible to apply.

If selected, the final proposed video art must be formatted and created to one of these specifications:  2 video walls at 1920 x 1080H pixels  or 

2 video walls at 3840 x 1080H pixels, supported file types MP4, AVI, WMV, Codec: H.264, no audio, no auto looping.  The two locations where the video walls are displayed, are at the baggage area, (across from the information desk) and 2 video walls along the moving sidewalks.

The scope of the project includes the production and delivery of properly formatted digital files ready for uploading to the two different formats.

All submissions must be submitted to infoairportvideoart@gmail.com by December 15, 2018 by midnight Eastern Standard Time and include:

1.  Artist Information/Bio, with website link, not to exceed 1 page, PDF format.

2.  Professional Résumé, not to exceed 2 pages, PDF format.

3.  Provide 10 digital images of previous related artwork, PDF not to exceed 1 megabyte each 300 dpi. 

4.  Minimum of 3 - 5 video excerpts of 3-5 minutes video with links to video (can be on a PDF) or in body of email.

5.  1-2 page of art descriptions with artist statements PDF

6.  1 proposal (with one paragraph) with a proposed video 2 still images, 

1920 x 1080, or 3840 x 1080 pixels. One formatted each for format/area (baggage/lobby of airport arrivals 1920 x 1080, or 3840 x 1080 pixels, that are located in the long passenger causeway of how proposed art work relates to, explores and expands or even celebrates ideas about our unique region, PDF. 

7.  Artists who have previously been selected must wait one year to be eligible to apply again.
