One-week printmaking workshop with Valerie Lueth of Tugboat Press

Take your craft to a new level with our one-week intensives, packing 30 hours of class into five days. Delve into a concentrated topic or process, led by an expert in her field.

 

Topic: Multiblock Woodcut
Valerie Lueth of Tugboat Printshop shares her unique approach to woodcut printmaking, offering insight into drawing and carving techniques, transferring, registering and printing multi-block color in variations of CMYK. Work with instruction to develop an original woodcut print in up to 4 block color; you choose the number of color blocks and level of difficulty.  Draw images on blocks of birch plywood and hand-carve in low relief for printing with oil-based inks. Expand your application of traditional woodcut craft while experiencing Valerie’s intricate & spirited methods of block printing.

 

Instructor: Valerie Lueth
Valerie Lueth is a woodcut artist living and working in Pittsburgh, PA. Valerie operates the internationally recognized artist press Tugboat Printshop, and has steadily produced her hand-crafted woodblock prints at Tugboat since co-founding the press in 2006. Valerie’s original prints are published directly to paper from blocks of 3/4" birch plywood, drawn & carved by hand in low relief for printing by the artist.
