Curatorial Mentorship Program

Type: Awards, Grants, Fellowships [View all]
Posted by: Association of Art Museum Curators Foundation
Deadline: Tue, June 25th, 2019

Applications are open for AAMC Foundation’s Mentorship Program, which gives early- to mid-career curators opportunities to advance their professional development, learn about important issues in the field, share ideas and cultivate strong bonds with peers, and develop a working relationship with a senior curator. The program’s goal is to advance the skills, experience and knowledge needed to succeed in a curatorial career, not specifically develop a singular curatorial or scholarly project.

The 2019-2020 Program launches this fall with the Mentees conducting introductory video recordings that are shared with the cohort, Mentors, and residency presenters. Then, as the foundation for the Mentee cohort experience, a three-day intensive residency in New York City will be held from November 19 - 21, 2019. In May 2020, the mentees will attend the AAMC & AAMC Foundation Annual Conference, which will be held in Seattle, Washington, to reconnect with their cohort and meet the nearly 400 curators in attendance from around the globe. The Program concludes with a virtual meeting of the cohort, with each mentee presenting how the Program impacted their goals and development. The introduction and conclusion aspects of the Program add a digital learning and sharing experience for the Mentees.

All Mentees are provided funding to accommodate program components, including travel and other benefits, which are outlined in greater detail here. A group of curator jurors will select ten mentees for 2019-2020 Program, with Mentees and Mentors announced this July.

All applicants must be art curators at international nonprofit organizations, with direct responsibility for works of art. In addition, independent curators and others that work a minimum of 50% of the time for/with nonprofit organizations will be considered.

Applications are due by 12PM ET on Tuesday, June, 25, 2019. Click here to learn more and submit your application today!

This program is made possible through the generosity of Barbara Futter, Catherine Futter, the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
