Are you up for the challenge of creating 30 6”x6” artworks in 30 days?

Join us for Rockingham Fine Art Association’s (formerly known as Spitzer Art Center) 6th annual 6x6x30!  Collectively, over the last five years, over 100 artists have joined together to each produce 30 original artworks in 30 days. The experience has been community building and challenging. The experience is also rewarding, both through personal artistic achievement and through sales. Over $10,000 worth of artwork was sold during the exhibition each year from 2016-18, with sales topping $15,000 in 2019! This 30 days of art-making will culminate in an exhibition at Park Gables Gallery, Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community, located at 1491 Virginia Avenue, Harrisonburg, VA. The opening reception will be held on March 6, 5-8pm and the exhibition can be viewed throughout the month of March. The exhibition will be juried and awards will be announced during the opening reception.  1st place $500, 2nd place $300, 3rd place $200

The exhibition will be juried by Robert Stuart Robert Stuart website, nationally known Staunton, Va based artist, and Sukjin Choi Sukjin Choi website, professor, ceramics area head, and graduate faculty at James Madison University.

Send a proposed project description and 3 images of representative work to spitzerdirector@gmail.com. These are samples of the work you have already produced, and should be representative of the work you anticipate making, not the actual work (since the final work will be produced during the period of January 15-February 13). The work submitted must be in the media you intend to use for your 30 day challenge.

The dimensions of all 2D work must be 6”x6”, 3D work must be approx. 6”x6”x6”.  Any media will be considered.

In order for your application to be considered, you must adhere to the following guidelines. The subject line of your email and your word document must read as “2020 6x6x30- your name”. In this email attach three images of your work and one document with written application materials numbered and formatted as listed below.

2) email address

3) mailing address

4) phone number

5) website or site where additional work can be viewed

6) brief description of proposed work and anticipated subject

7) specifically describe the media you will use (for example: acrylic on paper or mixed media on cradled wood panel) and how you will display your work *(see note on displaying work below)

 

Application fee: $25 non-refundable fee (upon acceptance, an additional fee will cover the cost of your display panel. Panels can be reused from prior years and no additional fee will be required) Please mail entry fee, payable to Rockingham Fine Arts Association, PO Box 303, Harrisonburg, VA 22803, or drop off your fee at our Larkin location, Studio #1 (hours Mon-Friday 11a-7p, Sat/Sun 12-5p).  Fee must be postmarked by Dec 31, otherwise your application will not be considered.

Notification of acceptance or non-acceptance: on or before January 5

Day 30: February 13

Work delivered to VMRC ready to hang*, date TBD.

*the work will need to be submitted mounted to a 48x40 inch panel (purchased through RFAA). You will need to pick up your panel at RFAA studio prior to the final drop off dates (date TBA) in order to attach your work to the panel. RFAA will not be attaching the work to the panel, this will be done by the artist. The work MUST be mounted to the board with appropriate hanging hardware and must be straight.  3D applicants must specify how the work will be displayed and arrangements for display (i.e. pedestals) must be made by the artist and agreed upon by RFAA prior to acceptance to the exhibition. (Follow-up details and suggestions on mounting artwork will be emailed to accepted artists). RFAA reserves the right to reject work that is not professionally displayed. All work must be sold through RFAA during the exhibition and for 30 days after the exhibition closes. No outside sales should be conducted. 

 

Additionally, RFAA and Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community require that the content of the completed work be “family friendly” and jointly reserve the right to reject exhibiting any work in question. No violence, nudity, or vulgar, discriminating or offensive language.
