The Dayton Society of Artists (DSA) is pleased to present INTERTWINED, a national call for fiber arts. All artists, 18 years or older and residing in the US are eligible to submit work. All art submitted must be related to fiber arts (materials consisting of natural or synthetic fiber or other components such as fabric, yarn, etc). Each piece must utilize fiber materials as one of the integral components of the work. Traditional and non-traditional approaches are welcome, and the medium may be interpreted broadly. Heather Jones will be this year’s juror and $1000 will be awarded in prizes.

ABOUT
The DSA is a non-profit, member-based organization. It was founded in 1938 and acquired a Victorian house in the 1960s, which was converted into a gallery. The DSA’s mission is to “connect, support, and educate artists and the community.” The DSA hosts various workshops and events throughout the year to fulfill its mission as well as hosts a variety of exhibitions. JUROR
Heather Jones is an artist, designer, and educator whose work questions and pushes traditional conceptions of both quilt making and painting. Her work is represented by Imlay Gallery, Montclair, NJ; the George Gallery, Charleston, SC; Moremen Gallery, Louisville, KY; and Jenner McGuinn Studio, Atlanta, GA. She is a three-time winner of the Project Modern Quilt Design competition and a two-time finalist for the Martha Stewart American Made Awards. Her work has been exhibited widely at venues including the Taft Museum of Art, Cincinnati, OH (solo); Marta Hewett Gallery, Cincinnati, OH; Iowa Quilt Museum, Winterset, IA; New England Quilt Museum, Lowell, MA; the University of California, Berkley, CA; dr. julius | ap, Berlin, Germany; M17 Contemporary, Kiev, Ukraine; and Five Walls, Melbourne, Australia. Heather’s first book, Quilt Local: Finding Inspiration in the Everyday was released in October 2015 by STC Craft, an imprint of Abrams, New York.

A native Cincinnatian, Heather studied art history at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning, earning both a Bachelors of Arts and Master of Arts (ABT). She currently lives just outside the city on a small farm with her husband and two children.

ENTRY FEES
$20 for one piece. $5 per additional piece, up to four. Maximum of 5 entries per artist.

REQUIREMENTS
Artists must be 18 years of age or older and reside in the United States.

Art must be professionally presented and ready to hang, be displayed on a pedestal (pedestal maximum footprint of 15” x 20”), or sit on the floor. High Street Gallery uses a hook and rod system due to their plaster and lathe walls. For details visit: daytondsa.org/exhibitors. DSA is open to innovative installation solutions, but they must be preapproved.

Art must fit through a standard doorway. Please contact us before submitting if your work is taller than 5-foot-tall or more than 30 pounds.

Artwork must not have been exhibited before at the Dayton Society of Artists

Artists must submit the following:

Full Name, Address, and Date of Birth Bio Information Artist Statement up to 1000 words Submit up to five (5) fiber art-based works. These works must be finished new work or work made within the last five years. Object details are required for each work submitted: Title, Date, Medium, Dimensions, Sale price/value. Installation instructions for each work. Work must be ready to hang with mounting hardware and instructions. Any additional information regarding the work.

All applications submitted will be considered final and treated as such. Applicants will not be permitted to add to or edit an application once it has been submitted. All incomplete or duplicate applications will be immediately disqualified.

ART DELIVERY / RETURN
Artists must cover the cost to transport artwork to and from the gallery. All work selected for the exhibition must arrive ready to install. Works not gallery-ready, or not exhibiting good craftsmanship, may be omitted from the exhibit. Accepted work that differs significantly from the submitted images, or suffers from poor presentation, will be disqualified. Works must be hand delivered or shipped. Shipped works must be sent in reusable packaging. Works will be returned in the same manner as received or via FEDEX/UPS/USPS. Exhibited work will remain on display for the duration of the exhibition. Works not claimed within 30 days of the end of the exhibit will become the property of the DSA

Shipped Works: must arrive Tuesday, April 14 or Wednesday, April 15, 2020. Please contact us if you have special delivery needs outside of designated delivery times.

LIABILITY & SALES
The DSA has fine art insurance for work physically inside the gallery. Artists maintain responsibility of insuring work during shipment and travel. Damage caused by the failure of the work itself is not covered. If work has an insurance price of over $500 then any insurance claim must be accompanied by documentation of past sales and/or a professional 3rd party appraisal.

Please note: The DSA does not have climate control in its galleries.

DSA takes NO COMMISSION on sales but requires a 4% free for all credit card sales. Please price work accordingly or as “Not for Sale.” Donations are always appreciated and help support future programming.

AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE
Submitting the entry form indicates that you agree with the conditions of entry and exhibit as outlined in these guidelines, and that you agree to make your work available and will ship/deliver it to the gallery should it be selected for exhibit.
