Panelists sought for a roundtable to be held at CAA 2013: "What We Teach: Perspectives on the Logic, Scope, and Value of Art Appreciation" Central questions will include: What does it mean to offer an entry level (or foundations) course in art? Are we doing justice to our students by making such classes "mini" art history surveys or basic primers in the "formal qualities" of art? If these are large lecture classes, what learning goals can such courses claim to help build a student's grounding for higher education? Likewise, what impact is online education having on these courses? Accounting for the freedom of individual faculty in the classroom, can (or should) departments set standards of content, scope, and goals for such courses? Ultimately, how do we keep such courses relevant for today's students?

Session co-chair Brian Seymour, (bseymourccp@gmail.com) and Julia Sienkewicz (julia.a.sienkewicz@gmail.com). Please email cochairs for for full CFP
