CAA Publishing Grants

Meiss/Mellon Author’s Book Award

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation awarded a one-year grant of $60,000 to CAA to fund the Mellon/Meiss Author’s Grant Award in 2013. CAA will provide funds to emerging authors who are publishing monographs on the history of art and related subjects. The purpose of the subventions is to reduce the financial burden that authors carry when acquiring images for publication, including licensing and reproduction fees for both print and online publications.

A similar award (SAH–Mellon Author Awards) for emerging scholars publishing monographs on architectural history and the built environment is being administered by the Society for Architectural Historians (SAH). For more information, please contact Beth Eifrig, SAH assistant director of programs, at 312-573-1365. Both the CAA and SAH awards will provide leading authors in the early stages of their careers with the financial resources to acquire images for scholarly publications.

Millard Meiss Publication Fund

Cécile Whiting Pop L.A.

The University of California Press received a Meiss grant in fall 2004 to help publish Cécile Whiting’s book, Pop L.A.: Art and the City in the 1960s (2006)

From the Millard Meiss Publication Fund, CAA awards grants twice a year to support the publication of book-length scholarly manuscripts in the history of art, visual studies, and related subjects that have been accepted by a publisher on their merits but cannot be published in the most desirable form without a subsidy.

Wyeth Foundation for American Art Publication Grant

Thanks to a generous grant from the Wyeth Foundation for American Art, the Wyeth Foundation for American Art Publication Grant supports book-length scholarly manuscripts in the history of American art, visual studies, and related subjects that have been accepted by a publisher on their merits but cannot be published in the most desirable form without a subsidy. For this grant program, “American art” is defined as art created in the United States, Canada, and Mexico through 1970.

CAA Publication Grant

The CAA Publication Grant, which presented awards in 2006 and 2007, has been suspended.
