Call for Submissions | 2019 TONI BEAUCHAMP PRIZE IN CRITICAL ART WRITING
Gulf Coast: A Journal of Literature and Fine Arts is now accepting entries for the 2019 Toni Beauchamp Prize in Critical Art Writing. A variety of creative approaches and formats to writing on the visual arts is encouraged, and submissions can include exhibition reviews and thematic and scholarly essays. The contest awards $3,000 to the first place winner and publication in the print issue of Gulf Coast. Two runners up will receive $1,000 each and publication of their work as online exclusives.
This year’s contest will be judged by Jessica Lynne, art critic and founding editor of ARTS.BLACK, an online journal of art criticism from Black perspectives. Her writing has been featured in publications such as Art in America, The Believer, BOMB Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, and elsewhere.
Entries for the prize in Critical Art Writing should be a single piece of prose not exceeding 1,500 words and written (or published) within the last year. We will accept submissions both via Submittable and via postal mail. There is currently no fee for submissions.
Read the full guidelines on the Gulf Coast website or submit online.
Previously unpublished work or work that has been published within the last year will be considered. Submit one piece of critical art writing in a single .doc, .docx, or .pdf file.
The contest will be judged blindly, so please do not include your bio, your name, or any contact information in the uploaded or mailed document.
