Exhibition Opportunities

Womyn's Werq

Type: Exhibition Opportunities [View all]
Posted by: Studio Montclair Inc
Deadline: Sun, January 31st, 2021

In Honor of Women’s History Month, WOMYN’S WERQ

An Open Call for an Old School, LGBTQIA-friendly, Radical Feminist Art Exhibition

This exhibition will be a hybrid of both virtual and onsite components. An open call to all who identify as radical feminists for two-dimensional and three-dimensional art works, and short video art pieces serving as visual narratives based on the mantra that the personal is political. What embodies radicalism on an artistic level, is it the artist’s engagement with protest, activism, cultural organizing? Is it the materials used or the content the artist takes up? Show us the manifestations of the work that fueled your survival through the past 4 years and preserved your hope for a brighter future!

With a strong focus on inclusion, we seek and encourage ALL artists who may identify as gender-fluid, eco-femme, queer/trans and old school butch/femme artists.

Curator:
Donna Kessinger. As the Matawan Studio and Gallery Manager, Donna is an arts educator and curator who is currently focused on connecting with the artist community that thrives along the New York/New Jersey corridor. She received her Masters in Arts Administration from the University of Kentucky, and has produced several independent curatorial projects in New York and New Jersey since 1999. Donna has also produced emerging artist residency programs and related exhibitions at the Bronx Museum of the Arts and Aljira, A Space for Contemporary Art, in Newark, NJ, and serves as the Executive Director at the Monmouth Museum. She is a shy painter who loves wax medium and has recorded many hours of short, oral herstories on ancient videotape from the ’90s, including Nancy Spero, Carolee Schneeman, and Kate Millett. Donna believes having space to create is crucial to making art and that’s what it’s all about!
