The National Sculpture Society (NSS) will host its annual Sculpture Conference from June 22-24 in Pawleys Island, SC. Noted sculptors Anthony Antonios, Richard Blake, Carter Jones, Janice Mauro, Louise Peterson, Sandy Scott, Kent Ullberg and Rod Zullo, along with Gordon Alt, Executive Director of the John Cavanaugh Foundation, will speak about sculptures in situ at Brookgreen Gardens. Robin R. Salmon, Vice President of Collections and Curator of Sculpture, will give a talk on Brookgreen Gardens’ founders, and sculptor Walter Matia will lecture on the history of animal sculpture.
Other conference events include the Richard McDermott Miller Modeling Competition, during which ten sculptors model a bust from life for a chance at $8,000 in prizes, and the Honors and Awards Dinner, during which NSS will recognize sculptors Evan Morse, Timothy J Nimmo and Benjamin Victor, and will honor Gordon Alt and The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine for their service to American sculpture. A reception for the exhibition Richard McDermott Miller & His Circle will also be held. The retrospective exhibition also features the work of Paul Resika, Barbara Grossman, George Nick, Donald Holden, John Belardo, and Howard Kalish.
