Fiber Arts Competition

Type: Exhibition Opportunities [View all]
Posted by: Flag Wool & Fiber Festival
Deadline: Fri, May 15th, 2020

About the 2020 Fiber Arts Competition Fiber arts practice is often rooted in place. From the fiber used to the inspiration given, the land around us produces both material and artistic vision. Land-based practices, livestock, plants, and the human hand come together to create textiles ranging from knitted garments to artistic tapestries.    For the 2020 Flag Wool & Fiber Festival Fiber Arts Competition, From the Land, we ask you to examine how the land around you influences your fiber arts practice. Whether you are influenced by local fiber or draw artistic vision from your environment, we want to see how the influence of land informs your work.   Full details, including rules, regulations, awards, exhibit information, and how to enter can be found at www.flagwool.com/fiber-arts-competition.

About the Festival The Flag Wool & Fiber Festival takes place annually the weekend after Memorial Day. For 2020, the festival will be held at the Arizona Historical Society Pioneer Museum in Flagstaff, Arizona from May 30-31. It is the largest festival of its kind in Arizona, attracting over 3,500 attendees and growing every year. The festival includes fiber animal exhibits, live shearing, fiber and cultural demonstrations, a fiber arts competition and exhibit, workshops, vendors, local food, and more.   For 2020, we are thrilled to announce the selection of Stephany Wilkes as the festival keynote. Stephany is a sheep shearer, wool classer, and the author of Raw Material: Working Wool in the West, a book that tells the story of American wool through her journey to becoming a certified shearer. More details on events with Stephany during the festival weekend will be available in the near future.
