Legal Assistance
United States
Over the past several decades, lawyers and other advocates have formed organizations across the country to support visual, literary, and performing artists. Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, formed in 1969 and based in New York City, is the oldest of these. VLA and many other organizations provide legal advice, mediation, education, and other services to artists and nonprofit organizations on a pro bono basis or at reduced fees.
