Robert Reed Drawing Workshops: Call for Workshop Proposals

Type: Conferences & Symposia [View all]
Posted by: Penn State, Palmer Museum of Art, Hunter College MFA Studio, and the Whitney Museum of American Art
Deadline: Thu, August 30th, 2018

The Robert Reed Drawing Workshops will expose a diverse group of college-level visual art and design students to an innovative drawing curriculum, curate the work of Robert Reed, and disseminate scholarship about his pedagogy at Penn State, Palmer Museum of Art, Hunter College MFA Studio, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Comprised of lectures, discussions, and workshops, the curriculum will be based on Reed’s pedagogy and taught by his former students and colleagues. There will also be accompanying exhibitions of his work and teaching archives.

And it just wouldn’t be right if we didn’t make a lot of drawings in the process.

Penn State Workshop: February 21-24, 2019, University Park, PA

New York Workshop: March 23, 2019, New York, NY

Submission Deadline: August 30, 2018 @ 9 PM EDT

Notification By: September 28, 2018

Thank you for your interest in participating as a workshop instructor. The purpose of the workshops is to expose college-level visual art and design students to innovative drawing curricula inspired and informed by Robert Reed’s pedagogy. It is an opportunity for workshop participants to advance their ability to draw and to use drawing as a means of creating new ideas. The workshops are an opportunity for faculty to share curriculum, experiment with new methods of drawing instruction, and celebrate the life and work of Robert Reed.

Each workshop session will last three hours. The participants will be approximately twenty college-level visual art and design students. You can propose as many different workshops as you would like or teach the same curriculum for multiple sessions. There are four sessions during the Penn State Workshop and two sessions during the New York Workshop.

Proposals should be in PDF format (maximum two pages) and include the following information:

Workshop Title Preferred Workshop Event (PSU, NYC, or both) Instructor Name(s) Primary Contact Email Workshop Goals and/or Objectives Description of Investigation Relationship of Proposal to Robert Reed’s Teaching Materials Required for Students and Instructor Space Requests (interior or exterior, pin-up wall surfaces, etc.)

All participants will be required to grant permission for possible photographing, recording, and documentation of their workshop.
