Recycled Artist in Residency Program Info:

RAIR’s flagship residency program is a unique opportunity for emerging, mid-career and established artists to work at the intersection of art, industry and sustainability. Situated inside a construction and demolition waste recycling company in northeast Philadelphia, RAIR offers artists studio space and access to more than 450 tons of materials per day. RAIR has 2 residency programs: THE STANDARD RESIDENCY and THE BIGGIE SHORTIE. Both are given access to Revolution Recovery’s waste stream as well as access to RAIR’s staff- who work closely with all residents.

The 2022 RAIR jurors include Ken Lum, Karyn Olivier and Sarah Workneh.

The Standard Residency is a longer, more traditional studio based program. Standard residents are given access to waste materials and a studio and project space. The Standard Residency runs between March-November for 4-6 weeks.

The Biggie Shortie is a shorter, project based residency. Residents create a big project in a short amount of time. The flexible nature of Biggie Shorties allow for projects to be customized to fit each residency. The Biggie Shortie runs between March-November for 2-4 weekends.

2022 residents will receive a $1000 stipend. Residents from outside the region are eligible for travel and housing reimbursement.

We strongly encourage applicants to take a virtual tour of the site before applying.
