The Historians of Islamic Art Association is pleased to invite you to an online workshop on Alternative Careers for the Islamic Art History PhD.

Panelists: Nancy Micklewright (National Museum of Asian Art), Wen Wen (Barker Langham), Amanda Hannoosh Steinberg (Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences Fine Arts Library)
Training in the study of Islamic art history can open doors to a variety of exciting careers, from publishing and museum data management to cultural consultancy and digital librarianship, to name just a few.
This workshop offers an introduction to “alt-ac” (alternative-academic) and “alt-cu” (alternative-curatorial) career paths for specialists in the discipline. Topics that will be taken up include: How alt-ac and alt-cu jobs provide meaningful and fulfilling outcomes to a doctoral program; how to develop the connections to work outside of the professoriate and the curatorial sphere; and where to find the material resources to support additional training.
