Artist's Statement Writing Workshop

Type: Residencies, Workshops, Exchanges [View all]
Posted by: Sarah Irvin
Deadline: Sat, August 10th, 2024

This online writing workshop is for artists who want to improve their existing Artist’s Statement as they work towards upcoming exhibition/residency applications, artist website updates, or any other setting where an artist needs to write about their work.

The workshop will include a brief presentation that introduces art writing guidelines and examples. This instruction will outline methods for improving writing skills, include suggested resources, and define objectives for various types of writing artists need to tackle in their practice. Each of the 4 participants will bring their own existing artist’s statement (up to 500 words), and Sarah will facilitate 30 minutes for each artist to receive individualized feedback from the entire group (both instructor and peers) on their statement.

Participants will leave with multiple resources, writing prompts, and a robust set of suggested edits for their statement. The session is 3 hours long with a short break in the middle.
