2024 Beauchamp Prize in Critical Writing

2024 Beauchamp Prize Press Release, Gulf Coast: A Journal of Literature and Fine Arts

Every year, the Toni Beauchamp Prize in Critical Writing provides a forum for the thoughtful interchange of visual arts scholarship, research, and critical writing. The Prize invites submissions of expository writing, scholarly essays, and exhibition reviews that have been written–or published–within the last year.

As a hybrid literary journal, Gulf Coast blends the visible with the verbal, as its publications fuse visual and literary arts. As a binding principle, the journal particularizes the universal, crafting connections between particular events through grand arcs of time. It harmonizes niche themes, topics, and explorations, and proves the compatibility of difference.

The 2024 Beauchamp Prize awards the first-place recipient $3,000 dollars and allocates $1,000 each for two runners up. The winning essay will be included in Gulf Coast’s printed journal, with the two runners up also considered for publication. The 2024 Prize will be judged by Leslie Moody Castro, an independent curator and previous Editor at Glasstire.

Securing image permissions is incurred on the writer and, when relevant, reprint consent if the essay has been previously published.

The Prize is judged anonymously, so please withhold biographic details, including your name, or any contact data in the uploaded document. This information should only be pasted in the “Comments” field.

There is no entry fee.
