Future Histories Studio at Stony Brook University

Fellowship Opportunity, Spring - Fall 2025

The Future Histories Studio (FHS) at Stony Brook University seeks innovative artists, researchers, and practitioners for our prestigious fellowship program, which begins in March 2025. The Future Histories Studio is a dynamic studio at the intersection of technology and art, dedicated to pushing the boundaries of creative expression through cutting-edge technologies. We are committed to fostering digital future equity and accessibility champions can get behind.  FHS  believes as AI and other technological ecosystems expand, black, brown, Latinx, Indigenous, immigrants, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA, and even those comfortably in the middle class must participate in creating and informing the values and ethical foundations of the technological ecosystems we, like it or not, rely on. Founded by Stephanie Dinkins, the Future Histories Studio (FHS) is a laboratory that explores emerging modes of arts-centered research, production, and presentation. It is an exploratory hub for those interested in hybrid inquiry and developing practice-based research at the intersections of art, technology, race, storytelling, and social justice. FHS is situated in the Department of Art at Stony Brook University.

The Future Histories Studio centers questions and explores ideas through practice.  We work from an Afro-now-ist perspective, meaning we interrogate the status quo while actively working to create the world we want to live in in the here and now.   We are seeking adventurous artists, researchers, and practitioners interested in similar approaches to be part of an intimate cohort.
