Low Season Artist Projects is a unique artist-run residency program that collaborates with local Block Island, RI institutions to encourage community engagement during Block Island’s Low Season. In partnership with the Block Island Arts Council and the Old Town Inn, Low Season provides visiting artists with dedicated time and space to explore the island’s dynamic landscape, ecology, and multi-faceted history, while fostering meaningful connections with the local community.
Residency dates: September 28- October 8, 2025

For this round of the residency we are thrilled to work with Jared Quinton as our Fall 2025 guest juror and critic! Jared is a curator, writer, and currently the Emily Hall Tremaine Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, CT, where he oversees the pioneering MATRIX exhibition series and the museum’s postwar and contemporary collection and galleries. Jared will help us select the Fall artist-in-residence and will facilitate a virtual studio visit upon completion of the residency.
Low Season is a short-term residency that allows artists to recharge, create, and connect with the local community during the low season of Block Island, RI.
What the artist receives:
-Free lodging and breakfast at the Old Town Inn for the duration of the residency
-$1000 stipend for living expenses
-Travel stipend to cover the Block Island Ferry to and from the island
-Virtual studio visit with a visiting critic -An individual page on the Low Season website with a portfolio of your work
What the artist provides:
-A workshop for the Block Island School art students or the local community
-A public artist talk
-Own transportation to Point Judith, RI, to catch the ferry
